Educational Equity

From primary school onward, we ensures access to educational scholarships, supplies, & mentorship.

why we do it

In Tanzania, while primary education is officially free, hidden costs—such as uniforms, school supplies, and examination fees—continue to hinder access for many families. Dropping out of school is a major predictor of institutionalization, as families see orphanages as the only way to secure access to education for their children.

Our Bright Futures: Educational Equity Program addresses these systemic barriers. We a family-centered approach promotes long-term school retention and achievement —so that children don’t need to enter orphanages just to get what they need to enter the classoom.

how we do it

We provide essential school supplies—including uniforms, books, and hygiene items—and cover school fees in both public and private institutions when needed.

We work with school teachers to monitor progress, individual support plans, and flag early warning signs in the classroom.

We also work directly with guardians—most of whom are women—to ensure they can safely transport children to school, contribute to educational needs, and stay informed about their children’s academic progress.

Bright Futures contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals of Quality Education (SDG 4) and Gender Equality (SDG 5).
